Clifton native Rachel Zegler, 23, stars alongside Kit Connor in Sam Gold's adaptation of the Shakespeare classic in its debut on "Broadway."
The first seven of previews were sold out with standing room only, Deadline reports. The show's description on the Broadway website reads:
Left to their own devices in their parents' world of violent ends, an impulsive pair of star-crossed lovers hurtle towards their inescapable fate. The intoxicating high of passion quickly descends into a brutal chaos that can only end one way.
The show runs at Circle in the Square through Feb. 16, 2025.
Some of the cheapest tickets appear to be on StubHub for $129 each (for the Oct. 8 show at 8 p.m.) and Vivid Seats for $133 in the orchestra. Tickets start around $150 on TicketCity.
In an Instagram post, Zegler said she dreamed of being on Broadway since she was 4, after seeing "Beauty and the Beast" and the Lunt Fontanne.
"We are telling this story because we are living through times of worldwide trauma and desperately need to take an introspective look. what world are we leaving behind for our children? what hatred are we passing down to them? what if we replaced that hatred with an open mind? what if we dared to replace it with love? with understanding? with a willingness to listen?" she writes.
"what if what we really need is to keep telling the story until we get it right?"
